A Night in the Tropics
Music from Brazil, Cuba, Hawai'i...
Take the exotic lounge sounds of Martin Denny, the pyrotechnics of Yma Sumac and the rhythmic pulsing of bossa nova, add mint and shake. This is A Night in the Tropics -- an original orchestral pops program conceived and created by Charles Lazarus featuring music inspired by the sultry melodies and evocative rhythms of the world's tropical climates. Spotlighting Lazarus on trumpet, joined by a jazz rhythms section, and offering inventive arrangements for the orchestra, A Night in the Tropics promises to bring a breath of fresh air to the stage. Repertoire includes originals by Lazarus, music from the Buena Vista Social Club and a tribute to bossa nova legend, Antonio Carlos Jobim.
